PASADENA STUDENTS COMPETE IN UNDERWATER ROBOT MAZE RACE AT ROSE BOWL
Pasadena Unified School District middle schoolers took to the field at the Rose Bowl on Friday morning — not for football but to go head-to-head in a deep-sea exploration themed robotics competition.
About 200 students competed in the ninth annual Pasadena Educational Foundation Robo Rally Driven by Honda. The students programmed their robots to explore underwater ruins, scan structures and retrieve artifacts.
“Now more than ever, students need a background in STEM — science, technology, engineering and mathematics — to help them succees in school and prepare for future careers,” said Steve Morikawa, vice president of corporate relations and social responsibility for American Honda.
The Pasadena Educational Foundation supports Pasadena Unified’s middle school robotics classes, and other sponsors of the program include Honda, the Rose Bowl Stadium and Legacy Foundation, MCCreight Foundation, the Pasadena Tournament of Roses and the College Football Playoff Foundation.
