Sportsmanship and other sports values such as teamwork and fair play have played significant roles in empowering individuals and strengthening communities. We can all gain from the experience of others.

SPORTSMANSHIP STORY SUBMISSIONS:

Sportsmanship and other team values such as teamwork and fair play have played significant roles in empowering individuals and strengthening communities! Now, we want to hear your story!

Please send us your story, ideally in 500 words or less or a 1 to 5-minute video, and we will share it on our website. Over time, we hope to amass a treasure of stories that convey the positive impact that sports values can have in our society. Meanwhile, you can win up to $2500!

Submission Questions:

  • Describe an inspiring "sportsmanship moment" that you saw or experienced.
  • How did that incident impact you and/or your community?

Please remember this is a family site, so we will need to remove any submissions that are not suitable for youth's consumption either in language or subject matter.

Standards for the Rose Bowl Institute Sportsmanship Story Contest

The Rose Bowl Institute is sponsoring a Sportsmanship Story Contest open to all to elicit inspiring stories of sportsmanship.  The Institute will hold the contest each calendar year, beginning in 2022, under the following rules and standards:

  1. The story should exemplify some aspect of sportsmanship.  The Institute does not define sportsmanship for these purposes, but suggests that it could include elements of respectful competition, including respect for the sport or game, team-mates, referees, and opponents; teamwork, or a recognition that the sport is bigger than any individual; fair play; and personal integrity, which includes commitment to a team.
  2. The story can be submitted in print, audio, or video form. For audio or video, one minute is an ideal time but can be up to five minutes in length.  For print, 500 words or less is ideal.
  3. The person submitting the story avers that the story is true and that they have all rights to the story and the format in which it is being submitted (e.g., the video content).
  4. In exchange for being considered for one of the prizes, the submitting party gives the Rose Bowl Institute a non-exclusive license to repost the video in any medium of its choosing at any time.
  5. The contest will begin with submissions due by November 30, 2022.  The winner will be announced by March 1, 2023.
