Overview
The Institute is extremely proud to give back to its community early on as it has grown to reach thousands with its programming on a local, national, and international scale.
The sportsmanship award values to be recognized and encouraged include appreciation for the game, commitment to the team, respect for others (particularly opponents and referees), playing by the rules, and personal integrity. The award recipients exemplify during the Turkey Tussle game at the Rose Bowl Stadium what it means to be a good sport and what it means to enjoy the game with respect for others.
Each year the Rose Bowl Institute awards two Sportsmanship Awards and Scholarship to a player from each school, Pasadena High School and John Muir.- School Name

2024 Rose Bowl Institute Turkey Tussle Selection Committee:

2024 Recipients:

Committee members included City Council Member Justin Jones, Rose Bowl Institute President James Washington, Rose Bowl Institute Advisory Board Member Dr. Jen Welter and Rose Bowl Stadium CEO/GM Jens Weiden.
The 2023 awards were presented to two PUSD students, Deon Mejia from Pasadena High School, and Brandon Valencia from John Muir High School for outstanding sportsmanship during the game.
2022 Selection Committee
Committee members included Mayor Victor Gordo, City Council Member Tyron Hampton, City Council Member Steve Madison, Sports agent and TV Producer Aloni Ford, and Rose Bowl Legacy Foundation Staff representative Brian Brantley.
2021 Recipients
This year’s award was presented to two PUSD students, Torriq Brumfield from Pasadena High School, and Jachai Pulley from John Muir High School for outstanding sportsmanship during the game. Brumfield and Pulley were selected for the award after exemplifying what it means to be a good sport and displaying a real zest for the game with respect for others.
